Save Money on Your Utility Bills This Summer

Who doesn't like saving money on their monthly utility bills? At Conservice, we love finding ways to reduce energy consumption, save money, and help the environment. Now that summer has arrived, higher utility costs can be expected, but with just a little extra care, you can reduce your utility usage and avoid high bills this summer.
  • Set your thermostat to 78 degrees when you are home, and 85 degrees when you leave for the day.
  • Replace air conditioning filters when they are old. An old filter will restrict the air flow and your air conditioning will be much less efficient.
  • If possible, install ceiling fans in your home. But remember, a ceiling fan is only effective when you are in the room and can feel the breeze.
  • Drink plenty of water. In the summer, it's especially smart to stay hydrated. You'll feel cooler and more refreshed!
  • Consider turning the air conditioning off at night and opening the windows to stay cool.
  • Replace a few oven and stove-top meals with heat-free dishes, such as salads or deli sandwiches, to avoid adding extra heat to your home. Summer is also a great time to use your grill!
  • Consider line-drying more of your clothing rather than using the dryer. Clothes will dry quickly outside, and the clothing will last longer.
  • Avoid hot showers that heat the room.
  • If possible, turn your water heater to the "warm" setting, which is 120 degrees.
  • Keep the blinds shut when the sun is shining directly into the room.
  • If you own a home and are considering planting trees or shrubbery this summer, consider doing so strategically so your home can be naturally shaded.
  • Avoid over-watering your garden. Remember, you get the most out of your sprinklers when you water early in the morning, around 5:00 AM.
